I know I haven’t blogged much lately – hopefully after the first of the year. Things are in full swing at KMP – we’ve moved into our new studio (still getting settled)… we’ve been doing tons of holiday sessions and we’ve had a LOT of newborns! In fact, we had a super special newborn session this weekend…let me tell you about it.
On Sept 6th, Carmen Matthews – along with hubby Mike – gave birth to 5 babies – Quintuplets! Layton, Lorna, Carleigh, Rucker and Eason. 2 girls, 3 boys – all healthy. Here’s an article about them in the local newspaper http://www.starnewsonline.com/article/20120926/ARTICLES/120929735
Little Rucker who is just over 5 pounds was just released from the NICU this past week (on Tues) so when we found out his release date, we set up their newborn session for Sat, Nov 3rd! The babies turned 8 weeks this past week but they were born at 34 weeks so if they had made it to their due date (obviously not for 5 babies…haha) that would make them like 2 weeks old. I try to do newborns between 5 and 10 days old..sooo…. we decided to give it a shot.
I had some wonderful and generous vendors who donated hats and headbands (to coordinate) for this special session. I also had an amaaaazing team of volunteers come and help me with the session. Thank you Kellie, Kevin, Mary, Diana, Catherine, Jessica, and Jennifer – I definitely could not have done it without you!!
The session took 7 hours! I had no idea what to expect but I’m thrilled with what we were able to accomplish. My regular assistants will tell you that I am a total stickler for “my baby’s” fingers being in the perfect position and their heads at the right angle, but yesterday I had to let go of some of that. I had to be realistic – this was 5 babies and 5 babies that are older than my regular newborns. Soooo anyways… without further ado.. here they are…
Left to right in birth order… Lorna, Layton, Carleigh, Rucker and Eason
All of these adorable bonnets were made by Jessica at Knitz!

From left to right… Layton, Lorna, Rucker, Carleigh and Eason. Each one had their own preferences..lol. Some liked tummy time…some not so much and little Rucker, being so tiny, had to be cozy or he cried
So we made him warm n cozy!
Next up… just the girls. Heather at Woolywishes made these adorable hats.
Just the fellas…. Rucker, Eason and Layton
Heather at Woolywishes made these as well!
Now for some individual shots…. Layton
We decided to do a neutral background so they would all match
Lorna wearing an adorable tie back from Jessica at Knitz
Tiny Rucker – but such a strong fighter.
Carleigh – also wearing a tie back from Jessica at Knitz
(she sent 2, we just didn’t get a chance to use it in the same shot on both girls)
Finally… Eason… he was my challenge but I looove how this turned out. This hat is from Kristen Mackey at Son Kissed Photography. She is an amazing newborn and family photographer and is right in the middle of her crazy season too. She wanted to send coordinating hats for all 5 babies but was only able to finish up 2 so she sent them anyways – so sweet! I love this color with the green wrap!
I had big plans of getting like 3 or 4 shots of all 5 babies together. Yeah…after 7 hours of very hard work, I’m now thrilled to have gotten 2! haha This shot took about an hour and a half and it still isn’t as “perfect” as I would usually do w/one baby, but umm..there wasn’t 1 baby…there were 5…so I say it was a success!!
All 3 of these hats and 2 headbands were made by Jessica at Knitz. What a sweetheart to send 2 full sets!
Finally…Mom and Dad with their beautiful miracle babies!!

I was absolutely honored to be able to do this session – such an amazing experience. I seriously almost cried when they left even though I was totally exhausted..lol! Hopefully we can do pics again when they get bigger
Sometime in the next few days I’ll share some behind the scenes photos on my fan page at www.facebook.com/katiemathewsphotography
I’d love for you to share this blog post with your friends and family – not too often you see newborn photos of Quintuplets
And of course…leave some comment love
